Modification Design Summary
In 1999, Kentaro Sato remodeled and designed the course, completing the remodeling of the inner nine holes the following year and the out nine holes to one green two years later.
The one green, which adopted a new generation grass species called "Dominant," was an American-type green with a high mound and deep bunkers, and was a completely new type of green. Therefore, it was a tough challenge for the old members and ladies, and I heard that some of them complained about the elimination of the traditional Japanese receiving green strategy of rolling down the flower paths.
However, the main intention of Mr. Sato's remodeling design was the result of "seeking difficulty in the greens" (Sato) because the natural material site was small and short (6,400yrs. at that time).
Remodeling continued, and in 2009, in consideration of the aging of the course members, a large-scale construction project was undertaken to eliminate as much as possible the elevation differences in the course. About 500,000 m3 of soil was brought in from the outside, and all the out holes, including the driving range, were renovated, while the in holes 10, 11, and 13 to 16 were renovated.
According to Sato, "Fairway bunkers are placed 230~270 yards from the tee, increasing the demand for strategy for the athletic golfer.
The challenge was to satisfy the strategic needs of both athletic and average golfers at a distance in the 6,400-yard range.
